The Challenge: Combating Wind Uplift in High-Rise Terraces

Space House, a prestigious high-rise development with expansive terraces. Space House is a 255,000 sq ft brutalist masterpiece restored into a state-of-the-art smart building with unsurpassed amenities, designed to achieve BREEAM Outstanding and Fitwel certification. Ensuring the terraces were both elegant and secure, particularly against wind uplift, was paramount. Alltech Roofing, the subcontractor, was tasked with addressing this challenge. They needed a paving solution that was durable, aesthetically pleasing, and capable of withstanding strong winds, ensuring the safety and integrity of the building.

Wind uplift can be a critical concern for specifiers and developers, especially in high-rise buildings. RYNO’s advanced paving systems provide robust solutions that address these issues without compromising on design.

The Solution: TerraSmart® Pedestal Paving System – The Ideal Choice

Alltech Roofing’s search for a reliable and effective solution led them to RYNO. After a thorough assessment, RYNO recommended the Piata Skimmed Silver Grey Pavers paired with RPA-FR self-levelling pedestals. This combination offered multiple benefits:

  • Superior Wind Uplift Mitigation: The change from porcelain pavers to concrete ensured greater resistance to wind uplift, with the maximum wind load calculated at -0.975kN/m2.
  • High-Quality Materials: The Piata pavers provided a premium, granite-like finish, while the RPA-FR self-levelling pedestals ensured non-combustible and stable support.
  • Adaptability to Design Requirements: The circular terrace design required on-site cutting of the pavers to match the building’s curve, ensuring a seamless and aesthetic finish.

Throughout the project, open communication and collaboration were crucial. RYNO worked closely with Alltech Roofing and BAM Construction to address every detail:

  • Efficient Installation: Despite the terrace’s circular design, the pavers were precisely cut on-site to fit perfectly the curve of the building.
  • Sustainable Practices: RYNO advised on minimizing waste during the installation, promoting sustainability and cost-efficiency.

Thanks to meticulous planning, RYNO ensured a smooth production process and timely delivery. The TerraSmart® Pedestal Paving System including the RPA-FR non-combustible self-levelling pedestals, provided a flawless finish to the terraces.
